MOCHDRE CRICKET CLUB

2ND X1 REPORTS & SCORESHEET

MAY 6th MOCHDRE 2ND X1 v NORTHOP 2ND X1

A dismal opening weekend for the club was completed as the 2nd XI, also without a warm-up match, crashed by 68 runs in their Division 3 clash away to Northop 2nd XI. Electing to bat Northop reached 181 for 6, almost entirely relying on a splendid second wicket stand between Mark Allman, 81 not out, and Mike Williams, 51. Skipper Neil Campion, 3 for 40 off 12 overs, and young Tom Cain, 1 for 22 off 4, claimed Mochdre's only successes with the ball. Mochdre's reply began brightly enough with a fine 54 from Alun Evans, promoted to open the innings, well supported by Mark Williams, 22. The middle order, however, failed to fire, and from 70 for 2 the innings crumpled to 113 all out.

MAY 13TH MOCHDRE 2ND X1 v PWLLHELI

A depleted Mochdre 2nd XI struggled from the start in their opening home Division 3 fixture against Pwllheli 1st XI. Elation at the early dismissal of crack opener Neil Williams by Steve Penk gave way to dismay as Keith Edwards, 72, and Alun Edwards, 58, carved out a maximum break in the form of a second wicket partnership of 147. Occasional bowler Bob Gazeley applied the brakes with 3 for 35 off 9 overs before the visitors' innings closed on 205 for 5. None of the Mochdre batsmen established themselves against a nagging Pwllheli seam attack despite useful contributions from Alun Evans, 27, and Mark Williams, 17. Johnny Cooper, 4 for 28, and Neil Williams, 3 for 16, were prominent as Mochdre fell just one run short of a point on 104. Mochdre II 0 points Pwllheli I 10.

MAY 20TH MOCHDRE 2nds v SHOTTON Rained Off

MAY 27TH DOLGELLAU v MOCHDRE 2nds

Mochdre's young 2nd XI is still struggling to find its early season feet in Division 3 and, despite a fine captain's example from Neil Campion, suffered a demoralising defeat at powerful Dolgellau 1 st XI. Campion picked up 5 for 37 off 11 overs as Dolgellau recovered from 38 for 4 to total 195 for 8, Roy Golder 55. Barely in their teens, Mochdre's young bowlers Tom Cain and Jamie Shaw performed with maturity showing promise of what is undoubtedly to come. Sadly the batting once again proved the Seconds undoing, only skipper Campion, 21, and veteran Albie Woods, 17, reaching double figures as Mochdre were tumbled out for 56, Mark Roberts grabbing 5 for 5 off 8 overs. Next week's top of the table clash at home to Pontblyddyn will provide a searching test of Mochdre's championship aspirations whilst the second eleven face another tough fixture at Mynydd Isa 1st XI.
