SAT 3rd JUNE MYNYDD ISA v MOCHDRE 2NDS Rained off

SAT 10th JUNE MOCHDRE 2NDS v BRITISH STEEL

Mochdre 2nd XI gained their first win of the season in Division 3 as they defeated British Steel Shotton in a veritable feast of runs on a beautifully prepared home track. Electing to bat Mochdre were given a solid start by Alun Evans, 49, looking increasingly confident as opener, and Mark Cowgill, 28, putting on 72 for the first wicket. No 3 Frank Richards built on the excellent base with a sparkling unbeaten 79, including four sixes, and received valuable support from Mark Williams, 23, Bob Gazeley, 21, and Steve Penk, 14 not out, as Mochdre totalled 230 for 5 off their 45 overs. Any thoughts of an easy victory were quickly dispelled as the Steelmen took up the challenge with quickfire contributions down the order. Paul Williams, 58, led the way with assistance from Simon Hopkin, 30, and Dave Willcocks, 28. However the experienced Mochdre bowling attack remained calm under fire and the introduction of old- stager Bob Sugden, 3 for 47 off 12 on his season's debut, and Bob Gazeley, 3 for 50 off 12, saw B S Shotton restricted to 191 for 8 and Mochdre through to a satisfying 39 run victory.

SAT 17th JUNE BETHESDA 2NDS v MOCHDRE 2NDS

With so many of their number drafted into the first XI it was hardly surprising that a 2nd XI containing just three seniors should suffer a heavy defeat at in their Division 3 fixture at Bethesda. Occasional bowler Frank Richards, 4 for 33 of f 12 overs, with support from youngster Ricky Watkins, 2 for 65, had the home team in trouble early on. Bethesda number 6 Garonwy Stubbs, 84, and John Parry, 44, turned the game around as they boosted their side to a daunting 245 for 8 at innings close. Mochdre openers Brian Boswell, 18, and Neil Campion, 13, provided but brief resistance as the seam bowling of Percy Stevens, 5 for 30, and Lloyd Jones, 4 for 14, saw Mochdre dismissed for 59.

SAT 24th JUNE MOCHDRE 2NDS v BANGOR 2NDS

Injury also played a vital role in the 2nd XI's Division 3 fixture at home to Bangor II, as lofty paceman Steve Penk suffered damage to his knee whilst bowling the first ball of the match. The Bangor club's greater strength in depth was evidenced as their batsmen took control led by Cledwyn Jones, 50, racking up a formidable 203 for 5 off their 45 overs. Left arm spinner Bob Sugden returned 3 for 46 off 11 overs on a perfect batting track, whilst debutant wicket-keeper John Preston snapped up four of the five wickets to fall with stumpings. Mochdre's batting was always up against it in the face of a Bangor bowling attack mixing experience with youthful vigour. Bob Gazeley, 29, Frank Richards, 25, and skipper Neil Campion, 27, battled hard as Mark Watkin Jones, 3 for 22 and Ian Winrow, 2 for 14, did the damage before the home team closed on 134 for 8.
