Adam Campion in the West Indies 2005
Friday 9th April Arrived at the Gatwick Hilton at 45 p.m. to meet the rest of the squad and to enjoy a pre-tour dinner. All the parents were there. We had a meeting about correct protocol and also found out whom we would be sharing a room with. Saturday 10th April Flight to Barbados at 10 am. It was my first ever flight and I must say, it was great. We got plenty of attention in our England kit! On the plane we were given plenty of food and drink and we watched 3 films. After 8 hours we landed in Barbados. We were taken to Rostrevor Appartments for some swimming. (The connecting flight to Guyana wasn,t for 5 hours) Our parents found a bar somewhere. At 5.30 pm we flew over to Guyanan on BWIA flight. We landed at 6.30 pm and were whisked off to the VIP arrivals lounge. We were given special treatment here, all our passports were checked in by security whilst we waited in the lounge. We had 5 security guards looking after us. After a long time we eventually got on our mini bus. Again, we had security guards. Our bus was an air-conditioned top of the range vehicle> Our parents had a 1960,s rust bucket. We set off from the airport in a convoy of 14 vehicles. This comprised of Police, 3 buses, 2 luggage lorries and a variety of extra security cars. The roads were all closed for us to be driven straight to our hotel in Georgetown. We stayed at the Pegasus Meridian which by Guyanese standards was vey luxurious. Our rooms were air-conditioned. With temperatures of over 30 this was very welcome.
